The progress of the referendum Print

The following is the sequence of events that this referendum has already, and still must overcome:

1) The Milwaukee County Board Transportation, Public Works and Transit committee must approve this resolution with a majority vote, the resolution will then go to the full County Board.
• The resolution was approved on June 11, 2008.

2) The full Milwaukee County Board must vote on this resolution with a majority vote needed.
• The full County Board approved the substitute resolution. This was voted in favor 12-6 (with one absent) on June 26th, 2008.

3) If approved, Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker will have the option to veto this resolution.
• He vetoed this resolution on July 16, 2008.

4) The Milwaukee County Board will have the opportunity to override the County Executive's veto with a two-thirds vote.
• The Milwaukee County Board achieved this on Thursday, September 4, 2008.

5) An advisory referendum will now appear on the November 4, 2008 election ballot.
• The Milwaukee County voters achieved this on Thursday, November 4, 2008.

6) Based on the outcome of the advisory referendum the County must now receive approval from the Wisconsin State Legislature.
