On the most recent WisTrans flier we include a list of routes that have been eliminated since 2000, and also a list of routes that have been proposed for elimination since 2000 or partially cut back since 2000. It is a list that is surprisingly long.

 

The following is the detailed list of the actual reductions that each route listed faced, including what was proposed and the budget year that it occurred.

This is a rather long list, please keep that in mind when you think about how serious the situation is with respect to transit cuts over the last 9 years.

Route 1: MetroLink Northwest Express
• Eliminated in 2003 budget
(This route was very popular, but was eliminated to save money because it was an express service that ran along the same routes as local services and therefore was considered non-essential, it is a sign of the seriousness of the situation when a route such as this is sacrificed)

 

Route 2: MetroLink Sowthwest Express
• Eliminated in 2002 budget

 

Route 5: Oklahoma UBUS
• Eliminated in 2004 budget

 

Route 6: Quad/Graphics West Allis & New Berlin
• Eliminated in 2005 budget

 

Route 8: Quad/Graphics Sussex & Pewaukee
• Proposed for elimination in 2007 budget

 

Route 9: Menomonee Falls/Butler
• Eliminated in Waukesha County 2008 budget

 

Route 10: Humboldt - Wisconsin
• Proposed elimination of service north of Capitol Drive in 2007 budget (to be replaced with less frequent service via a new branch of Rt. 15)

 

Route 11: Vliet - Howell
• Proposed for full elimination in 2008 budget
• Elimination of Vliet service and reduction in Howell Ave. service in 2008 budget

 

Route 12: 12th - Wisconsin (Teutonia - Hampton)
• Proposed elimination of all service north of Florist in 2008 budget

 

Route 13: St. Paul - Michigan
• Midday service eliminated in 2002 budget (became rush hour only)
• Service east of 35th on St. Paul and Michigan eliminated and service reduced in 2003 budget
• Eliminated completely in 2005 budget

 

Route 14: Holton - Forest Hone
• Service along Mitchell and 1st Eliminated in 2008 budget
• Holton service replaced by modified Rt. 11 in 2008 budget

 

Route 15: Oakland - Kinnickinnic
• Reduced service between Packard Avenue and Clement Avenue when 15th Ave trips started turning branching at Clement in 2002 budget
• Proposed elimination of all service south of Columbia in South Milwaukee and Oak Creek in 2003 budget
• Elimination of all service south of Columbia in South Milwaukee and Oak Creek in 2004 budget
• Proposed reduction in service between Capitol Drive and Bayshore by turning segment into a branch in 2007 budget
• Proposed elimination of 15th Avenue branch (Clement/Pennsylvania/15th) in 2008 budget
• Proposed elimination of service south of Layton Avenue in Cudahy via replacement using Route 55 (reduction in service) in 2008 budget

 

Route 19: Kind Drive - S. 13th
• Proposed elimination of service south of Layton Avenue in 2008 budget

 

Route 20: S. 16th - S. 20th
• Proposed elimination of service south of Layton Avenue in 2006 budget
• Proposed elimination of service south of Layton Avenue in 2007 budget
• Proposed elimination of all service (without replacement) in 2008 budget
• Eliminated (with replacement via a branch of Route 19) in 2008 budget

 

Route 21: North Avenue
• Proposed elimination of UWM service along Lake Drive and Downer in 2006 budget
• Proposed elimination of UWM service along Lake Drive and Downer in 2007 budget

 

Route 23: Fond du Lac Avenue
• Proposed elimination of Park Place and Bradley Woods rush hour branches in 2007 budget
• Proposed elimination of all service west of 91st Street and North of Mill Road in 2008 budget

 

Route 27: 27th Street
• Proposed elimination of Glendale Industrial Park service in 2008 budget

 

Route 28: 108th Street
• Proposed elimination of both evening and late night service in 2002 budget
• Elimination of late night service (not evening service) in 2002 budget
• Proposed elimination of all service in 2008 budget

 

Route 30X: Sherman Express
• Eliminated in 2003 budget

 

Route 31: State - Highland
• Proposed elimination of Mayfair branch in 2006 budget
• Proposed elimination of Mayfair branch in 2007 budget
• Proposed elimination of Mayfair branch in 2008 budget
• Proposed elimination of all service west of 76th Street on both branches and all service east of 12th Street in 2008 budget

 

Route 35: 35th Street
• Elimination of all weekend service south of Howard and weekday evening and morning service south of Howard in 2003 budget
• Proposed elimination of all service south of Howard in 2007 budget
• Proposed elimination of all service south of Howard in 2008 budget

 

Route 39: Timmerman Flyer
• Proposed for elimination in 2002 budget
• Proposed for elimination in 2003 budget
• Reduction in number of trips in 2003 budget

 

Route 40: Holt - College - Ryan Road Flyer
• Proposed elimination of Ryan Road service in 2008 budget

 

Route 40U: Holt - College UBUS

• Elimination of service south of the Whitnall P&R lot (along Grange and Forest Home) in 2004 budget

Route 45: Watertown Plank - Capitol Flyer

(service only remains to serve Hamilton High School as a school route, operating only on school days with 1-2 trips daily)

 

Route 52: Clement Avenue
• Eliminated in 2002 budget (patial replacement with less frequent service via a branch of Route 15)

 

Route 53: Lincoln Avenue
• Elimination of service along Delaware in Bay View to Oklahoma in 2008 budget

 

Route 55: Layton Avenue
• Proposed elimination of service east of Packard Avenue and along Lake Drive in Cudahy in 2008 budget

 

Route 57: Walnut - Lisbon
• Elimination of Lisbon branch (Lisbon west of 60th) in 2004 budget

 

Route 58: Green Bay - Villard
• Eliminated in 2002 budget (replaced with a branch of Route 80)

 

Route 60: Burleigh Street
• Proposed elimination of UWM service east of Humboldt in 2006 budget
• Proposed elimination of UWM service east of Humboldt in 2006 budget

 

Route 63U: Silver Spring UBUS
• Eliminated in 2004 budget

 

 

Route 64: S. 60th - W. Grange
• Night service eliminated in 2002 budget
• Weekend service west of Southridge to Hales Corners eliminated in 2002 budget
• Elimination of all service west of Southridge to Hales Corners in 2003 budget
• Proposed elimination of all weekend service in 2007 budget

Route 65: West Allis
• Eliminated in 2002 budget

 

Route 67: N. 76th - S. 84th
• Proposed elimination of all south side service (service south of Watertown Plank) in 2008 budget

 

Route 68: Port Washington Road
• Proposed elimination of all service in 2002 budget (to be replaced with a branch of Route 80)
• Elimination of service between North Avenue and Keefe Avenue in 2002 budget
• Proposed elimination of service north of Bayshore in 2007 budget
• Proposed elimination of all service in 2008 budget

 

Route 80: 6th Street
• Proposed elimination of service along Hopkins in 2002 budget
• Reduction in service along Hopkins between Locust and Capitol in 2002 budget
• Proposed elimination of all service south of MATC South in 2008 budget

 

Route 83: Courthouse Shuttle
• Proposed Elimination in 2003 budget
• Service ended for non-budget reasons in 2005 (due to closing of parking lot it served)

 

Route 101: MetroLink Silver Mill - Park Place Shuttle
• Eliminated in 2004 budget (replaced by a branch of Route 23)

 

Route 102: MetroLink West Loop Shuttle
• Elimination of Saturday service in 2001 budget
• Eliminated in 2004 budget (replaced by a branch of Route 23)

 

Route 104: Brown Deer Shuttle
• Eliminated in 2003 budget

 

Route 106: Falls Industrial Park Shuttle
• Eliminated in 2005 Waukesha County budget

 

Route 137: House of Correction
• Elimination of Sunday service in 2004 budget

 

Route 219: Oak Creek Shuttle
• Proposed elimination in 2006 budget
• Proposed elimination in 2007 budget
• Proposed elimination in 2008 budget

 

Route 227: Franklin Shuttle
• Eliminated in 2004 budget

 

Route 258: Glendale Industrial Park Shuttle
